The arrogant, older, full-blooded youkai son of Inutaishou. At the beginning of the series he was set on owning the Tessaiga, pulling the black pearl out of Inuyasha’s eye and robbing his father’s grave. Sesshoumaru couldn’t touch the Tessaiga because of the seal placed around it and ends up fighting Inuyasha in his true dog form. Inuyasha cuts off his left arm, forcing him to retreat in defeat. He comes back multiple times for the Tessaiga afterward, finding replacement arms for the one he lost. Sesshoumaru eventually decided to make a sword of his own and brought Kaijinbou (the expelled disciple of Toutousai) the head of Goshinki (the third ‘child’ of Naraku that broke the Tessaiga in his teeth, unleashing Inuyasha’s demon blood and then getting ripped to shreds) to forge a sword out of the teeth. The result, ‘Toukijin’, proved to be too powerful for anyone but Sesshoumaru to handle. Sesshoumaru travels with Jaken (a youkai with a toad-like appearance that serves him) and a little human girl named Rin. Jaken had been with Sesshoumaru from the beginning, but Rin joined them later in the series. Sesshoumaru was struck with the Tessaiga’s Kaze no Kizu and lay immobile in the forest. Rin brought him food and water, though he continually turned it down. Wolves attacked her village, and when ran her down and killed her. Sesshoumaru came upon her dead body, and resurrected her with the Tenseiga his father left him. Though Rin appears to be an exception, Sesshoumaru very vocally doesn’t like humans, hanyou in particular, and blames them for his father’s downfall. Since he found out about Inuyasha’s demonic transformations, however, he has stopped actively trying to kill Inuyasha and steal the Tessaiga. His attention, like the majority of the cast, has shifted to finding and killing Naraku.
